White Shaman Rock Shelter

A black primordial ancestor is transformed into a massive figure that combines the features of a serpent and a catfish. In Mesoamerican myths, the mother goddess possesses both traits. The wavy white line is believed to represent the path of the sun. The primordial ancestor and headless white figure is believed to represent the Moon Goddess, and is decapitated in some Mesoamerican traditions and symbolizes the west and winter solstice. "Park Avenue". The main cause of the formation of the arches, spires, balanced rocks, sandstone fins, and eroded monoliths is that they lie above an underground evaporite layer or salt bed. The salt bed is believed to be some 300 million years old. Arches National Park, Utah

"Abiquiu". Abiquiu means "wild cherry place" in the Tewa language. Abiquiu was one of the homes of artist Georgia O'Keefe from 1929 until 1984. Many of her paintings depict scenes near Abiquiu. Abiquiu, New Mexico.

"White Rock Overlook". The White Rock Overlook features a staggering 270 degree open view of the beautiful Rio Grande River as it runs along the Jemez Mountains. White Rock, New Mexico.

"Hoodoos". Hoodoos are referred to locally as "goblins" which are formations of mushroom shaped rock pinnacles, some as tall as several yards. The distinct shapes of these rocks result from an erosion resistant layer of rock atop relatively softer sandstone. Goblin Valley State Park, Utah.

"El Santuario de Chimayo". This small church was founded in 1816 by Bernardo Abeyta and other residents of the then separate village of El Portero. With its thick adobe walls, two bell towers and six foot crucifix, the church is considered a prime example of Spanish Colonial architecture. It is best know for the supposedly creative powers of the holy dirt found in its sacristy. Chimayo, New Mexico.

"Ghost Ranch". Ghost ranch is a 21,000 acre retreat and education center close to the village of Abiquiu, in north central New Mexico. Ghost Ranch was the home and studio of Georgia O'Keefe. Ghost Ranch is also known for its concentration of fossils, most notably that of the Theropod dinosaur of which it is estimated that nearly 1,000 individuals have been observed in a quarry at Ghost Ranch.
